Anarchy is NOT What We Want
It is a shame that so many people have misconceived ideas about our Opposition Groups and Freedom Fighters. Recently, several ministers and diplomats of Asean countries warned that a sudden regime change in Burma could lead to Iraq-type anarchy with rival factions battling each other for power.
Someone also said that a sudden collapse of central rule could be disastrous because there are so many ethnic groups in the country, “people with weapons but no education, that Burma could become another Yugoslavia or Iraq”. Well, the Burma Army is filled with soldiers with weapons and no education, not to mention the thugs, who are far from intelligent, so what’s new?
The Burma Regime obviously has been successful in misleading these people with their propaganda. This is of course typical of the junta, but the fact that such educated and “knowledgeable” people can be taken in and believe in such nonsense is really sad.
It is obvious that these people are repeating the Junta’s warped ideas.
Firstly, there would not have been so many opposition groups and freedom fighters if Burma had a fair and ethical government. Dysfunctional governments create immense frustration in others, accompanied by threats of rebellion or at least passive resistance and subtle sabotage. Burma's opposition groups were formed due to the lack of freedom and justice in any form, nor any human rights for the people. There had to be organisations which can support and help the people in whatever possible way, bodies who could voice the needs of the ordinary citizens who are not allowed or unable to speak out for themselves. Burma’s ethnic freedom fighters only came into existence to protect and help their countrymen and countrywomen from the Burma Army's (SPDC) horrendous human rights crimes, such as persecution, victimisation, torture, unlawful killings, license to rape the women and children, destroying their homes, their homeland, robbing their livelihood, forced labour and being forcibly kicked out of their villages and leaving them barely surviving; completely helpless, ruined and without any rights or autonomy.
Singapore’s Asean Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong said, “We should not think of a so-called regime change.Such change implies a dramatic power vacuum.”
However, as Sai Wansai of SDU pointed out, “we have umbrella organisations such as NCGUB, NCUB, NDF, DAB ENC, NLD and CRPP”. SSA, KNPP and KNU are bundled under the Military Alliance; all have common goals and as such, we the opposition, are in a position to fill in the power vacuum. “In short, we won’t fall into Yugoslavia-like scenario easily.”
Kyaw Zwa Moe of Irrawaddy News also wrote an excellent article in response to Asean, said, “Anarchy is the best description of Burma’s present state, a military-ruled system of anarchy.”
A good example of anarchy (chaos, lawlessness, disorder, mayhem), is the recent tragic blood bath in Rangoon, which the world watched with horror and shock the scenes of monks and peaceful civilians being brutally and barbarically beaten up, shot at and murdered by the Burma army and their thugs.
The situation of Burma cannot get worse than at present. In fact, it can only get better.
Once the regime collapses, the anarchy will stop and normal processes can resume.
It is time that Asean realized that the Burma Junta do not take their soft molly coddling approach seriously; they do not understand diplomacy; they need a strong and hard approach; leaving Burma’s destiny in the hands of the junta is like leaving a fragile and vulnerable baby in the grips of wild and crazy dogs.
It is high time Asean cares about the citizens of Burma, what they need, their welfare, and stop believing the lies of the Burma Junta.
